Food Waste Membership

If you are interested in joining this movement, please get in touch with us HERE with:

  • Your desired service
  • If collection- your address

and we will reply with a direct debit link and further information.

DROP-OFF:

Upon subscribing we will be in touch to organise a time that suits you to meet down at The Castle in Hay-on-Wye, where we will teach you how to use the infrastructure (it is as simple as emptying your food waste into a machine, followed by the same ratio of wood chips). Once your all inducted your free to come and go as you please to empty your bucket of food waste and be a part of the compost revolution!

This subscription service is good for those who live local to Hay and therefor can walk (using fewer vehicles means happier environment), OR for those who find themselves coming into Hay often, if you work here, shop here, etc. We want to avoid using transportation as much as possible..

COLLECTION:

We understand a drop-off service may not be everybody's cup of tea, and we will slowly be introducing a collection service after a few months of analysing the drop-off process.

Upon signing up for this subscription service we will drop you off a clean bucket of your desired size with a tub of bokashi to start the breaking-down process before the next collection date. We will then send you an email of the collection dates over the next couple of months for you to mark on your calendar, this will be a monthly collection.  On these dates we would ask you to leave your bucket outside your house so we can whizz round and replace your full food waste bucket with a clean one!

This subscription is suitable for those with larger buckets who are unable to carry them to the Castle.

As an expression of gratitude for your support in nurturing soil health, we offer an annual gift of a 25-liter bucket filled with the exquisitely rich compost you've contributed to creating.

Our compost is guaranteed to enhance the vitality of your plants and mitigate weed-related challenges. This efficacy stems from its balanced composition, teeming with beneficial fungi, bacteria, and their associated predators, fostering a robust soil food web. To delve deeper into the fascinating world of soil biology, we recommend exploring the resources provided by the Soil Food Web School, renowned for their contributions to permaculture and regenerative agriculture through pioneering microscopic insights.

We kindly request that all members adhere to certain guidelines: remove plastic labels from fruit skins, crush eggshells, break down bones, and chop up whole vegetables into small pieces, particularly potatoes. Avoiding plastic and refraining from including dog or cat waste are vital rules upheld by our community
