Our compost is anything but ordinary. It’s crafted entirely from food waste collected from Hay-on-Wye’s independent businesses, combined with wood shavings sourced from local carpenters and makers.
After being carefully hand-turned and left to mature for around nine months, the result is a nutrient-rich, bio-complete, living compost designed to breathe life into your soil and nourish your plants.
Packed with billions of beneficial bacteria, fungi, and microorganisms in every gram, this extraordinary compost will rewild your soil. It helps draw down carbon, unlock essential minerals for your plants, boost water retention, prevent disease, and so much more!
How Best to Use Our Compost:
As a Soil Inoculum:
Spread a thin layer (around 1-2cm) across your garden beds or mix lightly into the topsoil. This allows the beneficial microorganisms to integrate into your soil and improve its health over time.
When Planting:
Add a small handful to planting holes for vegetables, flowers, or trees. This will give your plants a nutrient boost and improve their root development.
For Top-Dressing:
Apply a thin layer around the base of established plants, shrubs, or trees. Water it in well to encourage the microbes to penetrate the soil.
In Compost Teas:
Use our compost to make a nutrient-packed compost tea. This liquid feed is perfect for boosting soil life and supporting plant growth during the growing season.
To Improve Depleted Soil:
If you’re working with tired or degraded soil, use our compost as an amendment by mixing it into the top 10-15cm of soil. This will help restore structure, fertility, and life.
